This year again Prof. Urio has been invited to Center for China Studies (directed by Prof. Hu Angang) at Tsinghua University and to the CELAP (Chinese Executive Leadership Academy Pudong). One of the purposes of this visit was to finalise the writing of the manuscript of Prof. Urio’s new book: a comparison between the impact of New Public Management in China and in the West. For this purpose Prof. Urio worked with two assistants at the Centre for China Studies: Sophia Huang and MaYing Jun. Moreover, he had discussions with Professors Hu Angang, Yong Yongheng, Nailene Chou Wiest, Li Xiguang and Cui Zhiyuan.

He also met Prof Zuo Chuan Chang from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

  • Prof. Urio was invited by Prof. Li Xiguang to give a Conference to the Tsinghua University International Center for Communication on the main topics of his new book. The audience was composed of Chinese and foreign students.

  • Prof. Urio had also discussions with Prof. Qin Huimin de Renmin University, and
  • Prof. LIU Qiushi of the NGOs Research Centre at the Tsinghua School of Public Policy and Management for collecting first hand information on the development of Chinese NGOs.
  • Prof. Urio was again invited by the CELAP (Chinese Executive Leadership Academy Pudong) and had discussions with the newly appointed director of the Dept. of International Exchange and Program Development, Harry Liu Genfa, and Sean Hu; he also met the Executive Vice-president of CELAP, Prof. Feng Jun.

    Dr. Jiang Haishan former director of the Dept. of International Exchange and Program Development has been promoted to the position of Vice President of CELAP; Prof. Harry Genfa Liu has been promoted Director of this Department.

    As usual, this visit has been also the occasion for organizing informal social events: Prof. Urio was invited by CELAP’s International Department to the celebration of the anniversary of one of its members. The dinner was presided over by Ms Song Jin.

  • Prof. Urio took also the opportunity to meet several of his former students who attended his courses and seminars at the University of Geneva in the past. They are working in different organizations, some have set up their own company (e.g. a travel agency), some work for the Party, some others work for international foreign companies. They all provide very useful information and insights on the changing social, political and working conditions of China.
  • During his stay in Beijing Prof. Urio also met several officials at the Swiss Embassy and had the pleasant surprise of meeting one of his former students of the Geneva Department of Political Science who has been recently appointed Deputy Head of the Political Section at the Embassy.
