Prof. Paolo Urio was invited to attend to the Tsingdao Business week (June 14-17) and visited again Tsinghua University and Renmin University.

At Tsinghua University Prof. Urio had meetings with Prof. Hu Angang and Dr Yang Yongheng for the follow up of the Research Project on Public Private Partnership (see October 4, 2005). A seminar on the ongoing research conducted by Prof. Hu Angang's assistants was organised on June 22 for Prof. Urio. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Wei Xing; Ms Hu, Mr.Wang and Mr Chang presented and discussed their research with Prof. Urio.

At the School of Public Administration of Renmin University Prof. Urio had a meeting with Prof. Dong Keyong and Li Shaoguang. The progress of the cooperation with the University of Southern Switzerland (USI) has been discussed. The School will take part in a research on the access to health care in Switzerland, United Kindgom, Italy and China in patrnership with Prof. G. Domenighetti of USI. USI will also organise, with the help of our Foundation and in partnership with the Swiss School of Public Health a 2-week seminar for Renmin's MPA students to be held in 2007. Other cooperation projects have also been discussed.

On June 29 Prof. P. Urio and Ms Wang Fang had a meeting at The China Guanghua Science and Technology Foundation. Possibilities of establishing cooperation with Swiss institutions in the domain of industrial design have been discussed. ECMI will explore these possibilities in Switzerland.

ECMI has organized the visit to the University of Geneva of a delegation of the Shandong Economics University . As Prof. Urio was at that time in China the delegation has been welcomed by Prof. Frédéric Varone, of the Department of political science. Various possibilities of cooperation have been discussed.

Prof. Urio has welcomed to the University of Lugano Mrs Yuan Xing, from Tianjin Municipality (Department of Academic Degree and Postgraduate Administration,Tianjin Municipal Educational Committee). Mrs Yuan Xing has obtained a grant from the Chinese Government, and will spend a year in Lugano under the supervision of Prof. Urio and of Prof. Benedetto Lepori (a renowned expert in higher education systems) to spend a year in Lugano doing research on the Swiss and European higher education systems.

It is planned to welcome other Chinese Master and PhD students in Lugano or Geneva in the future. For the year 2007-2008 another PhD student from Renmin University will spend a year in Lugano under the supervision of Prof. Urio.

Prof. DONG Keyong, Dean of the School of Public Administration of Renmin University in Beijing, visited Switzerland, invited by our Foundation, the RESOP (Centre for applied research in social and political sciences) of the University of Geneva, and by the University of Southern Switzerland (USI - Università della Svizzera Italiana).

In Geneva Prof. Dong had meetings with Prof. Marco Giugni, Director of the RESOP, and Prof. Nicolas Zufferey, a renowned sinologist, Vice-Dean of the “Faculté des Lettres” and Director of the Master in Asian Studies.

Prof. DONG also visited the China Hub, Directed by Ms WANG Fang at the Geneva World Trade Centre.

In Lugano Prof. DONG met several professors and researchers and gave a conference on “Labour market and social security in China ” to the master students in economics and in health studies. The President of the University, Prof. Marco Baggiolini and the Dean of the Faculty of economics, Prof. Mauro Baranzini, attended to the conference. An official dinner was presided over by President Baggiolini.

During this meeting several cooperation projects have been discussed. Prof. Urio will act as an intermediary between Renmin and the Swiss institutions.
